Moving to Amsterdam with kids and considering school options? Many families from abroad opt to send their kids to an international school, particularly expats coming to the country for a limited time. There is a wide range of choice in the area and the international curricula makes transitioning in and out of the school easier.

Amsterdam International Community School (AICS)
The AICS offers the International Primary Curriculum for students 4-11 years old, the IB Middle Year Programme for 11-16 year olds, and the IB International Baccalaureate Diploma for students 16-19 years old.
The AICS has a range of international and Dutch students, with English as the primary language of instruction. The school is located in a quiet residential neighbourhood in Old South popular with expats, close to the World Trade Centre. AICS shares the facilities with a day care centre for kids under 4 years old.

British School of Amsterdam
The British School of Amsterdam follows the UK National Curriculum from Foundation Stage to Key Stage 4 before transitioning to the 'A' level syllabus. The school has three different buildings equipped with specialist teaching facilities to accommodate various age groups.
The Early Years School is for 3-5 year olds and the Infant School is for students 5-7 years old. The Junior School for 7-11 year olds and the Secondary School for 11-18 year old students share a building. All facilities are located in the Old South area popular with expats, with a shuttle bus between the Early Years School and the Secondary School.

International School Amsterdam (ISA)
ISA offers a curriculum for children 3-18 years old based on the International Baccalaureate's (IB) three programmes: the Primary Years, Middle Years and Diploma Years. The school was the first school in the world approved to offer all three IB programmes. English is the primary instruction language, and an extensive range of language support and options for additional language development is provided.
ISA is located in Amstelveen, just to the south of Amsterdam. Amstelveen is home to many expats and a variety of international companies are located here. The school can be reached by public transportation and special bus service can be arranged.

Annexe du Lycée Français Vincent van Gogh
The Annexe du Lycée Français Vincent van Gogh's curriculum is based on the official French programme defined by the French Ministry of National Education. Kindergarten starts at the age of 3, and children 6 - 11 years old transition into the five levels of Elementary education. French is the primarily language of instruction and kids are taught Dutch and English.
The Annexe du Lycée Français Vincent van Gogh is located in Amsterdam's The Pijp neighbourhood, close to the Sarphatipark.

Japanese language schools
The Japanese School of Amsterdam
The Japanese School of Amsterdam conforms to the national Japanese curriculum. All classes are taught in Japanese and there is a emphasis on fostering the cultural mentality of group cooperation. Additional Japanese reading and writing support is offered to expats on Saturday mornings.
The Japanese School of Amsterdam is located just south of the city's ring road, in the Slotervaart neighbourhood close to the large Sloterplas lake.
